Who we are
Church of the Lookout has a rich 40-year history as a Spirit-filled, Christian church in the Boulder area.
Originally founded under a different name,
we remain anchored in the words of Isaiah 5:
The one I love had a vineyard, a fine, well-placed vineyard.
He hoed the soil and pulled the weeds, and planted the very best vines.
He built a lookout, built a winepress, a vineyard to be proud of.
Isaiah 5:1-2 (MSG)
Our Vision is Jesus
Abiding in His presence, growing in His family, & living on His mission to transform the world with
awe-inspiring love.
Presence of God
Our roots are in the Presence of God – bringing life, shape, and breath to who we are and what we do. We live out of our gospel identities as dearly loved sons and daughters of God, seeking to bring heaven to every square inch of earth.
Family of God
From our roots we grow into a strong, unified trunk. We are more than a collection of individuals on separate paths. We are growing into a kingdom family, walking together in love, honor, and unity.
Mission of God
Like branches we are sent out from the trunk in the power of the Spirit to be messengers of God’s love in the world. We go with humility and boldness to our neighboorhoods, nations, and next generation.

What We Believe
Along with this statement of faith, we hold to the historic confession expressed in the Nicene Creed.
One God, Three Persons
There is only one true God who is the eternal King, Creator and Redeemer of all that is. He is perfectly holy, just, loving and truthful. He has revealed Himself to be eternally self- existent – one being in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ
The Lord Jesus Christ, the one and only Son of God, was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin, Mary, and is God’s Anointed One, empowered by the Holy Spirit to inaugurate God’s Kingdom on earth. He was crucified for our sins, died, was buried, resurrected and ascended into heaven, and is now alive today, in the presence of God the Father and in His people. He is “true God” and “true man.”
Holy Spirit
In the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live holy and minister super-naturally. The baptism of the Holy Spirit according to Acts 1:4-8 and 2:4 is poured out on believers that they might have power to be witnesses.
Salvation & Grace
We are saved by God’s grace, through faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ. Anyone can be restored to fellowship with God through repenting, believing and receiving Jesus as their Savior and Lord. The Holy Spirit convicts, regenerates, justifies, and adopts us as we enter the Kingdom of God as His sons and daughters.
Humanity
Humankind was created in the image of God to know and enjoy Him, yet we willfully rejected the Lordship and glory of God for which we were intended. Because of this, sickness, death and judgment entered the world and now creation experiences the effects and consequences of sin.
The Church
The Church consists of all who put their faith in Jesus Christ. He gave His church the ordinances of Baptism and Communion. The Church exists to carry on the ministry of Jesus Christ and further advance His kingdom by undoing the works of the enemy, preaching and living the good news of God’s love, discipling the nations, baptizing and teaching them to love and obey God.
The Bible
The Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative Word of God.
The Cross
The victorious redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides freedom from the power of the enemy – sin, lies, sickness and torment.
Return of Christ
In the ever increasing government of God and in the Blessed Hope, which is the glorious visible return of our Lord Jesus Christ for His overcoming bride – His church. Heaven and hell are real places. There will be a resurrection of the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting death.
Other Distinctives
Non-denominational
The Lookout is not affiliated with any denomination or group of church organizations or structures. We are relationally connected to kingdom leaders outside our fellowship for the sake of prayer, discernment, and connection.
Orthodox
We maintain a fidelity to orthodox Christianity. We hold to the historic faith with joy, boldness and confidence in a time of widespread theological and ethical compromise, particularly in the areas of scripture, sex, sin, money, and power. We are committed to the Gospel of the Kingdom of Jesus.
Charismatic
We depend on the power of the Spirit. We embrace the gifts and ministry of the Spirit to equip the church for fruitful missional engagement. We seek to be a people of God’s manifest presence resulting in works of awe-inspiring love.
Contemplative
We cling to the necessity of deep inner, spiritual formation and discipleship. We practice a slow-down spirituality in a world at war for our time and attention. We seek to recover ancient practices of sabbath, silence, solitude, and contemplative prayer that we may become true spiritual mothers and fathers.
Contending
We seek spiritual awakening. We pray fervently for an outpouring of the Spirit, that brings reformation and renewal to the church, and a spiritual awakening in the larger culture.
